The Cairo Tower stands proudly as you pass by it driving along side the Nile River. If you’ve never heard about it, when you see it you will ask about it and then you’ll want to explore!

The Cairo Tower is an amazing structure.  It towers over the Nile River at 187 m (614 ft), that’s 62 stories high, located in the Zamalek district with panoramic views of the entire city of Cairo and the Pyramids of Giza from its revolving rooftop restaurant and bar.  Construction began back in 1956 and was complete in 1961.  This free-standing piece of art work has an exterior design of concrete lattice pattern topped with an open-air observation deck. The architect, Naoum Shebib, had in mind to create the design to represent the ancient symbol of the lotus flower.

Between 2006 and 2009, the tower underwent a restoration project that included a new installation of light decoration.

Today the Cairo Tower is the tallest structure in Egypt and North Africa. It was once the tallest structure in all of Africa for around ten years until 1971, when Hillbrow Tower located in South Africa was built.

Open daily from 9 am until midnight and until 1 am during the Summer months. Tickets are 200 EGP per person, 300 EGP for Express, and children under 6 yrs are free).

Tip of the day: if you’re planning to visit the observation deck of the Cairo Tower, go on a clear a day and mid-day for the best views!
